2019 ANNUAL APPEAL

Dear Friends of First Tee of New Hampshire:

Thank you for your support of First Tee of New Hampshire! Your donations have enabled us to make significant strides in serving the youth of New Hampshire, and we would like to share with you some highlights of the past year that would not have been possible without your help. In this, our 16th year, we reached several noteworthy milestones:

  • We extended our reach to become truly statewide, and this is reflected in the geographic diversity of our governing board, as well as our program participants;
  • We established a scholarship fund to enable our participants to take part in leadership opportunities within First Tee and educational opportunities beyond First Tee;
  • We solidified our management and program staffing under the capable leadership of
    Chris Sargent, Kori Doring and Jim Blalock, providing the vision and fiduciary strength to
    carry our programs forward; and
  • We witnessed the return on investment as some of prior years’ participants have gone on to achieve academic and employment success, with many now giving back to First Tee of New Hampshire, the ultimate measure of our program success.

At First Tee of New Hampshire, our mission is “To impact the lives of young people by providing educational programs that build character, instill life-enhancing values and promote healthy choices through the game of golf.” As Arnold Palmer noted, “Success in the game depends less on strength of body than strength of the mind and character.”

Today, we would like to share a few stories from our program participants that illustrate, in their own words, how First Tee of New Hampshire has impacted their lives.

Serena, age 16, reports that:

“This summer, I attended the Joe Louis Barrow Jr. Life Skills and Leadership Academy in Boise, Idaho… Each day was a packed schedule with golf and other activities… and bonding time with the other participants, 96 kids from all over… When we weren’t playing golf, we were busy with multiple other activities and events. One day we went to JUMP Boise, Jack’s Urban Meeting Place. Here we got to try new things and explore our potential through art, meditation, cooking and other things.

The trip was extraordinary, and I am so thankful for having the opportunity to attend such a terrific event. I would like to thank all of the sponsors and donors who made this opportunity available to me. Thank you for all that you do for First Tee! This trip is one that I will never forget, and I will take the memories and lessons learned with me for the rest of my life. Also, thank you to ALL the coaches at The First Tee, you are amazing people and are truly committed to developing the youth into not only great golfers but great people.”

Steven, age 20 and now a junior at the University of New Hampshire, reported this past year that:

“I was a participant in First Tee of New Hampshire from the age of 8 years old until I was 17 and during those later years, I actually had the opportunity to… help out as an assistant to the coaches during youth camps… I grew more as a person than I could have ever imagined. What started as a way for me to meet new friends and play more golf turned into something much more impactful in my life. I had the opportunity to travel around the country and participate in national contests, including the National Par 3 Competition, as well as attend the International Junior Golf Academy for a week in South Carolina.

…I met mentors and coaches that have profoundly shaped my life and… provided a foundation that has allowed me to pursue all of my dreams, ideas and ventures such as my new startup which is a novelty golf gift called “The Bogey Bag,” which allows for golfers to take their anger out in a fun and healthy way… So, to anyone who is thinking of signing their child up for a chapter of First Tee, don’t just do it for the golf, but do it for the overall effect that it will have for the rest of their life.”

The dream of ANY golfer’s lifetime came true for 15-year-old Shivani with a trip to iconic Pebble Beach this September for the 2019 PURE Insurance Championship Impacting First Tee. Shivani wanted us to know that:

“The experience I had was unlike anything I’ve ever had and likely will ever have. Whether it was the people on or off the course, Pebble Beach was a place that will always be my favorite. The combination of the extremely kind and welcoming volunteers from near and far and the view of one of the most iconic courses in all of golf’s history made it so fun for all the juniors… I met people who shared the same sport and ambitions… from many different places that are proud to be a part of First Tee and experiences at the Pure Insurance Company Championship were times I will never forget.”

None of this would have been possible without YOUR support. Simply put, YOUR investment in First Tee of New Hampshire benefits our participants not only in their youth but forms the basis for a lifetime of personal achievement and happiness. It’s hard to imagine how money could be better spent.

I’d like to thank you in advance for continuing to support First Tee of New Hampshire so that every child who wants to, can learn to play the game of golf and to develop the character and life skills to enjoy their best future.
